Church Family,
Tomorrow evening (1/28/22), Bro. Shawn and Tina are hosting our Afghan family and a couple of their Afghan friends for dinner. They could use our help in a couple of ways:
If you can help in either of these areas, please call Sandy in the church office ASAP.

Hey Wilmont! Your work with Afghan refugees was featured in the recent Capital Baptist Association newsletter. As part of the Captial Baptist Association, we participate with approximately 150 other Southern Baptist Churches in missions work within the OKC metro area. Their featured article has been reproduced here for your reading pleasure. Keep up the great work!
Hey Wilmont! I had the privilege of representing the work you are doing with Afghan resettlement on an Oklahoma Baptists podcast this week. I’m also so proud of the tireless work of staff members Sandy Bean, Monica Carbajal, Jacob French, and Kim Wood. They’ve invested more than you’ll ever imagine. Watch or listen and celebrate with me how you are obeying God to reach the nations!
Pastor Shawn Church family, you guys have done an amazing job helping to furnish the apartment for the family that we're sponsoring. We got the keys to the apartment this week and were able to move most of the items into the apartment Tuesday night. Thanks to all who showed up to tote furniture (up a flight of stairs!) and unpack the kitchen and bathrooms, make beds and organize closets!
There are a few things that we haven't gotten yet, and we could really use some last minute help to make this apartment a welcoming and functional home for our new Afghan friends. The most important thing we need to provide at this point is food. Our family does not have transportation to run over to the grocery store, so we need to do that for them. Below is a list of items that are needed: PANTRY Flour Sugar Salt and Spices Baking Powder Corn Meal Cooking Oil Pasta and Pasta Sauce Canned Soups Canned Chicken Cereal and Oatmeal Rice Dried Beans/Lentils Canned Vegetables Chicken/Beef/Veggie Broth Nuts and Dried Fruits Peanut Butter Honey (other non-perishable foods) *Perishable foods will be purchased HOUSEHOLD ITEMS Shower Tension Rod Kitchen Trash Can & Bags to fit Silverware (forks, spoons, knives) Ironing Board Mixing Bowls Broom & Dust Pan Mop Dish Drainer Vacuum Modern TV Our Afghan family will move into the apartment just as soon as we hand over the keys to them - so time is limited! ALL ITEMS NEED TO BE DELIVERED TO THE CHURCH BY NOON ON THURSDAY, DEC 2. If you'd like to help but can't get out and shop, you can give as well. You can donate online here on our website under the "Give" tab, just select the "Family" option, or text "family" and the dollar amount to 84321. We'll be shopping for the remaining items Thursday afternoon in order to hand the keys over to our new friends. We were able to make brief contact (the family is non-English speaking) through another Afghan gentleman (who speaks a little English) in the same apartment complex this week. Hopefully we'll be able to establish a relationship with the family in the very near future. We'll keep you posted!!!! Hey Children’s Ministry Volunteers!
As many of you know, Monica, our Minister to Children and Families, is recovering from COVID. Bro. Shawn has asked me to coordinate our children’s ministries to support families at Wilmont for at least the next 10-30 days as we pray for Monica’s healing and return. As part of this temporary team, I have asked Carolyn Mahoney to serve as our acting short-term Children’s Minister to serve our teachers and volunteers in their various activities such as Sunday School, Wednesday Night, and Children’s Church, as well as communicating changes, updates, and events with you and the rest of our church. Carolyn will also be working with Carrie Schwab for our Nursery and volunteer schedule, so that we can effectively care for our younger children through our nursery. Carolyn and I are excited to serve you and to share with you a plan for our Children’s Ministry Sunday and Wednesday events, and we are so eager to see our children back in our Kidz Zone upstairs beginning tonight! If you are unfamiliar with our Children’s Ministry schedule, we offer:
Excited to see you and your children join us back in the Kidz Zone! I have full confidence in each of you, and I am very grateful for all that each of you do to minister to our kids at Wilmont. If there’s any way I can help you all serve in the areas that you do, please let myself or Carolyn know! Thanks everyone! -- Jacob French Music and Youth Pastor Wilmont Place Baptist Church jacob@wilmontplace.com |
