After a person receives salvation by faith in Jesus Christ, the next natural progression in The Journey is to apply for baptism and membership. This is a big step in sharing your commitment to follow Jesus Christ in public (Matthew 10:32-33). While it can be intimidating, we will walk this journey with you and guide you through each step along the way.

1. Baptism
Baptism is a symbolic act of obedience to Jesus Christ that publicly identifies you as His follower. Biblical baptism should be by immersion, after salvation, and in a church of similar faith (Matthew 28:19-20).* Water baptism does not impart grace, or make a person right with God (saved). Rather, it communicates a picture to friends, family, and to the community of believers what God has done in saving a sinner. Baptism, whether in our church or at another, is a prerequisite to membership at Wilmont Place Baptist Church.
*By "similar faith" we are referring to an evangelical church that teaches the symbolic nature of baptism after salvation and through immersion, or full submersion under water (as opposed to sprinkling). Any baptism not in the right mode (immersion) or with the right meaning (symbolic) will require a candidate to be baptized. A minister or deacon will walk you through this meaning as part of your journey. |
2. Membership
Members are not perfect people. Rather, members profess to have received salvation by faith in Jesus Christ and choose to walk their Christian journey together for accountability and support.
Wilmont has an intentional membership process for those wanting to join our church. It requires requesting membership by a minister on your behalf before the congregation and completing our membership covenant agreements. Your membership presentation and covenant agreements can be accomplished in any order, but we have found the following process to be helpful

A. Attend our Connect Lunch
|
Our Connect Lunch is a FREE catered meal once a quarter after a Sunday morning worship service. It gives you a chance to meet some on our leadership team as well as to hear the vision of our church. You will not be required to speak, but you will be given opportunities to ask questions. At this lunch you have the opportunity to complete a Membership Application if you choose to continue with the membership process.

B. Speak with a Church Leader
|
Everyone who completes a Membership Application will be scheduled to visit with a minister or other church leader. We will present you with our church bylaws and constitution and guide you through signing our covenant agreements. Our covenant agreement articulates the commitment members make to one another.

C. Congregational Presentation
|
Your minister or church leader will guide you at the end of a worship service to a pastor for presentation. You will be asked by a minister to affirm your salvation and baptism. Your minister or church leader will confirm your acceptance of our church covenant and you will be presented at the front of the sanctuary for membership. Our church will vote on your membership and will gather to introduce themselves to you at the end of the worship service. It's a wonderful moment of embracing new members into our church.
