Worship With Us
Easter Sunday!

Our resurrection service will be full of singing and Scripture as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. But did you know that the week prior to the resurrection is called passion week? This week in the life of Jesus was filled with triumphal highs and demonic lows. It is named this because how passionately Jesus went to the cross to pay for our sins. As you prepare for celebration Sunday, spend some time familiarizing yourself with all Jesus did for us! The reading guide below will harmonize the various accounts of Jesus' work and walk you through what Jesus accomplished to provide our salvation!

Where was Jesus between His death and resurrection?
Many Christians try to answer that question after incorrectly reading a New Testament understanding of a place of torment into an Old Testament context. (Remember, prior to the resurrection, even the Gospels represent Old Testament theology.) Our own OBU religion professor Matthew Emerson does a great job of answering, He Descended into Hell, or Did He?: Jesus’s Descent and Why It Matters for Christian Theology.

*The order and length of events are debatable but provided here for a general understanding. This timeline adapted from Reese, Edward, and Frank R. Klassen. The Reese Chronological Bible.
