Hey Wilmont! I had the privilege of representing the work you are doing with Afghan resettlement on an Oklahoma Baptists podcast this week. I’m also so proud of the tireless work of staff members Sandy Bean, Monica Carbajal, Jacob French, and Kim Wood. They’ve invested more than you’ll ever imagine. Watch or listen and celebrate with me how you are obeying God to reach the nations!
Church family, you guys have done an amazing job helping to furnish the apartment for the family that we're sponsoring. We got the keys to the apartment this week and were able to move most of the items into the apartment Tuesday night. Thanks to all who showed up to tote furniture (up a flight of stairs!) and unpack the kitchen and bathrooms, make beds and organize closets!
There are a few things that we haven't gotten yet, and we could really use some last minute help to make this apartment a welcoming and functional home for our new Afghan friends. The most important thing we need to provide at this point is food. Our family does not have transportation to run over to the grocery store, so we need to do that for them. Below is a list of items that are needed:
Salt and Spices
Pasta and Pasta Sauce
Cereal and Oatmeal
Nuts and Dried Fruits
(other non-perishable foods)
*Perishable foods will be purchased
Shower Tension Rod
Kitchen Trash Can & Bags to fit
Silverware (forks, spoons, knives)
Broom & Dust Pan
Our Afghan family will move into the apartment just as soon as we hand over the keys to them - so time is limited! ALL ITEMS NEED TO BE DELIVERED TO THE CHURCH BY NOON ON THURSDAY, DEC 2. If you'd like to help but can't get out and shop, you can give as well. You can donate online here on our website under the "Give" tab, just select the "Family" option, or text "family" and the dollar amount to 84321. We'll be shopping for the remaining items Thursday afternoon in order to hand the keys over to our new friends.
We were able to make brief contact (the family is non-English speaking) through another Afghan gentleman (who speaks a little English) in the same apartment complex this week. Hopefully we'll be able to establish a relationship with the family in the very near future. We'll keep you posted!!!!
Wilmont Place Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist church of 150 active members on the south side of Oklahoma City. Text-driven expository preaching, Bible-teaching, personal growth, and community evangelism define the culture and direct the activities and events of the congregation. The church is working through a formal revitalization strategy in which members become family and the community becomes ministry.
